Taoist Water and Metal Practices for the Winter Season
Winter is the season of the Water element in Taoist tradition. Here are the practices, foods, and meditations that support your energy during the coldest months.
In Taoist Five Element theory, winter is the season of Water — the most Yin time of the year. Nature demonstrates this: animals hibernate, trees go dormant, energy moves inward.
Winter Practices
Rest more. Sleep earlier (before 11 PM is ideal in Taoist medicine). Eat warming foods — soups, stews, root vegetables. Reduce social obligations. Practice more sitting meditation. The Taoist wisdom: winter is not the time for pushing. It is the time for storing energy so you have reserves for spring.
